Three years after Jeffrey Epstein was sentenced to prison for "procuring for prostitution a girl below age 18," David Brooks hung out with him at an event, which Brooks declined to disclose in a recent Epstein-files-are-no-big-deal column, and the NYT is fine with that.

that the NYT carefully says no contact ”before or after“ probably means that Brooks had an amiable chat with the convicted sx offender at the event, which, If I am following correctly, was funded by the same molester to clean up his image

very possible the actual Brooks-Epstein encounter was quite innocent, but the not-disclosing-it-while-dismissing-the-Epstein-scandal part is what it is.

Anyone who was buddy buddy with Epstein after his first conviction should be completely removed from public life, imo. Perhaps they should have to carry around a sign.

Of course it's possible. I don't believe that just cause your picture was taken with ep that makes the person a pedo. But absolutely writing that column like he was a total innocent looking in from the outside was BS.

And certainly doesn’t make it look like a one time encounter

LEFT: David Brooks last month, portraying himself as America's foremost critic of American elites

RIGHT: David Brooks in 2012 insisting that America's elites enjoy "honest" advantages: they* work harder than the poor & middle class; their only flaw is not admitting they* are elites.

* "they"

the latter part is true, but it's not really about elites, it's about professional class people who could plausibly take Brooks's own jobs. Not executives or capitalists per se.

The wealth-supported prep school path to the Ivies, where interlocking networks are developed, is the US version of the peerage. Many in this group have no sense or desire to know about the lives of the inconsequential. We just pay the taxes on their wealth.

It would be really cool if @pbsnews.org fired him

Wait - this can’t be. I was told Brooks was a self appointed expert on “character.”

Ah
Only one meeting
Just the once

I'm reminded of slick Willy admitting he smoked pot at Oxford ...or Cambridge..

''Only once...And I didn't inhale ....''
