This is what's always bugged me about "that poem". We don't need an investment or trade in ethics, we just need to do what's right.

the thing about the poem is that the dude writing it was being incredibly literal. he was a nazi and an antisemite but didn’t like the nazis trying to take over churches and ended up in a camp because of it and experienced huge regrets and guilt for his previous support for nazism

… anyway perfectly valid to be annoyed with how people use the poem (i think motivating through self interest is fine if it works - actions matter more than inner thoughts probably) but also yeah people should just do what’s right
but that poem itself is a guy expressing his own mistakes
