Someone has lifted the QuickTimeVR movie files from 1994's "Star Trek: The Next Generation Interactive Technical Manual", upscaled them then built an in-browser replica of the ITM's "Tour" module. mijofr.github.io/st-panorama/

OK so we have the 1701-D technical manual, we have Star Trek Borg, when are we going to get an upscaled web based Star Trek Klingon? It's got more Gowron than all of DS9 put together.

Update: Yeah not the actual CD-ROM recreated like Star Trek Borg is - just the 360 "QuickTime VR" photos from the disk in a nice layout.

@mikeokuda.bsky.social this was one of the first virtual things I had as a kid. And I remember a certain creative artist who heavily influenced it and the visuals within. Thanks Mike!

Wait, did they deliberately add all the lens flares to the kelvin enterprise, or was that actually a feature of the lighting on the set? lol

I should note, there's some distortion towards the top and bottom in these that wasn't present in the original CDs, since the images are cylindrical projection and I'm showing equirectangular. I planned to adapt the code to properly support cylindrical at some point but still hadn't gotten to it.

There was an incredibly detailed fan built VR set called Stage 9 which even imagined parts of the ship never shown on screen. CBS had it killed. www.pcmag.com/news/cbs-kills-star-trek-stage-9-fan-project

At least a couple key people from Stage 9 became part of the Roddenberry Archive art team, so it wasn't all for naught.

Interesting how much more futuristic the Bird of Prey looks inside. The Enterprise D looks like some drab corporate meeting room from the 1980s.

Where did the newer stuff come from? Like some of the images are copyright 2001! Do you have a link to the GitHub repo?

GitHub link at the top right of the page. The Voyager and Discovery ones came from features on startrek.com at their respective times.

I always hoped the 35mm film used to make those original VRs would get rescanned and released - they will be in a drawer somewhere!
