In Europe at least, cell carriers already know the ages of their users because you have to show ID to get a SIM card. I wonder if that information could be used to prevent children from installing or using social media without the social media companies ever having to see anyone’s ID.

Only works on phones. I use a desktop. Please don't ask the internet to become a walled garden for cellphones only. It's bad enough already.

I think that might be enough! That’s how almost every kid uses the internet, and it’s definitely the way they use it when they should be paying attention in class or doom scrolling when they should be sleeping. I think just making social media not be constantly in their pocket would go a long way.
