I mean correlation is not causation but it's becoming glaring that in the past six months or so, now that Claude is writing everyone's code, it's become normal for every site and app to be broken.

if this effect is actually real, and not something we want to be real, it should be measurable.

You’re right and I apologize. I should have flagged that.

AI doesn't have stable long-term memory yet, which means any learning they do with the user has to be constantly refreshed & verified.

Just from a practical perspective, this is not reliable & would need to be checked at every step.

AI is not a pro. It's an intern with a short attention span.

I noticed that around the same time that Microsoft purportedly introduced generative AI tools into their dev pipeline, Windows really started being terrible.

I recently used a VM of Windows 11 after only using Linux for a few weeks and it feels so bad now!

I'm lucky that the team I'm working on understands that code from someone who knows how to do it is actually good!

Meanwhile, Base44 continues to rear its head in all my ads and I want to brain myself every single time.

GenAI has to die or else enshittification will continue. Please.

It’s so noticeably bad. We’re going to be cleaning up digital asbestos for years.

Good the quicker this all fails the better.

Then there will be a huge hiring spree and young adults will be incentivized to go into computer programming.

Sadly, after 4 years everything will be fixed and massive layoffs will happen leaving all those young adults without employment opportunities.

I started coding for the web back on the first release of html. You used Trumpet WINSock to instantiate, and Mosaic 1.0 for a browser. That code was better than the vibe coded garbage coming out now. However, that garbage is trained from real world code, so that tells you something about the quality

Thank you, I thought I might be imagining things. I noticed Discord and even God damn Outlook have been getting progressively buggier and buggier over the past few months for apparently no reason at all.

I’ve been concerned for a few months now that enshittifying the internet might be part of the plan

Creating an expectation of brokenness across the entire software industry so that you can start hiring and producing products at the new standard of β€œworks but barely” that consumers will have no choice but to settle for

According to Anthropic, they have a version of Claude that is so good at identifying bugs in websites and apps that they can't safely release it.

But life we say in coding, garbage in, garbage out.

It’s still the humans publishing the broken code.

I alone meditate on the digital island of probably-accidental-non-AI-inconveniencedness; I have been blessed by nature. It is my sworn duty to lead the neo-Luddites into a final organismic battle against the machines.

We had a good 15-year stretch there where software was mostly stable and it was unexpectedly refreshing--I remember the surprising moment of realizing "hey, I don't expect programs to abruptly throw an error and close for no reason anymore!"

But now we're back to errors for no reason.

Are you sure software is less stable than before, maybe it's just confirmation bias?
