It's always obvious when folks haven't bothered to actually *listen* to so-called "Left NIMBYs."

"Left NIMBYs" believe that supply side housing policy needs to be paired renter protections at minimum. Ideally, however, it needs to also accompany action re 1) algorithmic rent fixing platforms 2) $ laundering 3) whole home AirBnBs 4) private equity/speculation 5) vacant homes

Algorithmic rent algos are why my rent just went DOWN 25% in Denver.

Airbnbs provide an important service to traveling groups and families that hotels cannot.

PE only buys because there is money due to scarcity. Supply fixes it.

I'm all for preventing money laundering and taxing vacant homes.

Vancouver is a great example of this. The explosion in development has occurred alongside a city that offers near universal rent control, strong renter protections, a penalty on non-resident home purchases, and more.

#5 in particular is such a tell that left-NIMBYism is about posturing, not actually solving a problem in the real world. If an apartment is sitting vacant, nobody is actually harmed (besides the person who's forgoing the rent they could be getting by renting it out).
