Both can be accomplished, even if the limit is extended. I agree that a wall of text in the skyline would not be great, but there are options that can be put in place to avoid that.

I'm happy with the character limit as it is, which is already longer than old Twitter was.

My personal "one wish" would be an edit button, even if behind the scenes it just did cut-n-paste/delete/edit/post like we cavemen currently have to.
