It's likey worth that much individually to many of the oligarchs who combined to finance that deal. They have all the money, numbers don't really seem to matter as long as they can maintain that.

They care a shitton more about control of the government and power than they do about money. They can make more money. But representative government can break up their crony capitalism and even jail them for fraud, insider trading, corruption and for some, sex crimes.

Democracy allows some resistance + accountability, as you say. They love fascism maintaining their power to steal, rape, and kill with impunity... as we are witnessing very publicly these days.
