The “toxic gases” they’re talking about are likely the hydrazine thrusters. The chemical hydrazine is great for quick burn maneuvering thrusters but is real dangerous for humans.

It’s bonkers that you can take a screaming fast spacecraft, jam it into the atmosphere, bring it down using parachutes, and have everything be exactly as you planned, from speed to location.

They were like 9 whole seconds later than the predicted splashdown!

Another crazy part is that their "reentry burn" was actually 8 days ago, when they left Earth orbit with the TLI burn - a free-return trajectory that was so precise they skipped 2 of 3 outbound burns because they weren't needed!
