Nonaka-kun was originally a manga character created by the late Kondo Yoshifumi, director of Whisper of the Heart (耳をすませば). The character was based on a real Ghibli employee, and other characters are also inspired by real individuals. [3/9]

Momose had fulfilled a range of roles on other Ghibli works, especially including Takahata Isao's films. He is credited as director on Ghiblies Episode 2 at least, but the setup was probably quite loose, as the art in each segment - and between the episodes - varies a great deal. [4/9]

Since then, Momose directed some music videos and worked as a key animator at Ghibli. He was later involved with the Ni no Kuni (二ノ国) video games and directed the 2019 anime adaptation, and more recently directed The Imaginary (屋根裏のラジャー) at Studio Ponoc. [5/9]
