I remember seeing QSound come up on Street Fighter 2 arcade games, but no idea what it actually was.

It’s a sound card, essentially. QSound is a real-time audio process that takes mono sound sources and creates stereo / surround layering that effectively makes for the illusion of “depth” in sound. Capcom utilized a dedicated QSound processor in its arcade boards.
