As I grew as an adult, I realized fashion (and fashion trends) were bullshit. You know how the art world is bullshit? Same deal. Rich assholes and rich artists push their BS and everyone else follows like lemmings. Those that judge or "cringe" need to shut the fuck up.

It's all personal taste!

You know, it's too early for a life lesson.
But I will process through this

taking through the cigarette is a MEGA cool concept! people come over and often make fun of my trinkets and style. My answer has been the same for 20 years:

"My stuff brought me joy before you. My stuff will bring me joy well after you. They're not leaving- but you can."

The conversation was fake, but the intention, the message, and the delivery were all so very real. Good job on it!

Yeah.. I remember getting a hoodie I loved when I was in high school because it had cute little cat ears on it, and I cut them off immediately after the first day I wore it because a friend made fun of me for it. Seeing the holes left in the hood still makes me feel the way the fish lamp does here

I feel this a lot as someone w stuffed animals and small trinkets. I don’t want to let others dictate my space tho, if someone thinks I’m cringe then I know not to open up to them

this is so true honestly I had that same fish lamp and I loved it but it broke. genuinely loved fruitiger aero and still do but it makes me feel really gross to realise my childhood is a consumerist trend and that lamp is being dropshipped now

I live in deep envy of those who choose to express themselves despite the judgments of others.

If a guy makes fun of you for liking something, it's not your guy.

Okay, but that fishlamp was one of the best things I ever owned!!! I watched that spin around for hours and only threw it out because it broke.

Damn I feel this so much πŸ˜”πŸ˜ I’ll never understand why it’s so bad for people to express their interests when they are told β€œto be themselvesβ€œ

God. Something I didn't know I needed put into words.

When I was a teen, I saw girls' bedrooms and the things they got to have in them. Star projectors, sparkly curtains, glitter lamps, inflatable chairs.

I asked my parents if I could have a room makeover for my birthday.
I got one.

I came home from a school vacation to a bunch of things 'proper' for my age and gender, and I had to pretend to like it because my family made it very clear it was what I was meant to have.
Then as I got older, I slowly threw away what things I _did_ like in my room.
It became a shell.

I liked all the β€œ2020” styles pre-2020 but couldn’t afford to start to get anything until last year. It was such a fun year because everyone was expressing themselves more in the comfort of their own homes. I just wish people would let people continue to do that outside now that it’s over
