This thread is a cognitohazard designed to get you to subscribe to a substack that claims it’s set in our world but is actually set in a neighboring one where this administration is a highly competent pack of operators planning everything five steps in advance.

“The threats to do war crimes to Iran are so that they can stage a false flag terrorist attack at home and blame it on Iran”

There. That’s the thread. It’s an episode of 24.

Given how people who live around CENTCOM are in local news comment sections preemptively blaming them and Trump for any attacks on CENTCOM that kill civilians, I'm not convinced that even if they were competent enough to do a false flag that they wouldn't be the ones who got blamed for it.

“Putin did something like this and I’m the guy who sold the book that was popular with the resistance a while back”

That’s the supporting evidence.

It’s easier to pretend that your enemies are evil geniuses rather than idiots, bc it feels worse to know that you’re being ruled over by an idiot.

There’s a sense of shame of “Why couldn’t I overthrow this idiot?” if you accept that the dude is an idiot.

Snyder used to be good! but woof, real "has only seen Boss Bay, watching a second movie" vibe

What’s your point? That we shouldn’t be concerned about these scenarios at all? Do you have some beef with the OP? I don’t get it… clearly this isn’t the time to be minimizing the stakes we face, right?

It's good to be vigilant but not good to scare yourself with a fantasy competent version of Trump.

I think he’s spinning out fantasy scenarios to scare people and make them draw unlikely-to-dead-wrong conclusions in the event something does happen.

The degree to which simply not admitting you made a mistake, ever, can hijack otherwise rational minds into believing you're an unrivaled genius is astonishing.

The “villain gets caught only for the heroes to realize it was part of his plan all along” trope in fiction has done incalculable damage.

I'm not afraid of an administration that's only dumb-lucked into whatever success they've had. If Snyder said these guys are dumb & the threat comes from that, okay, that's a solid assessment of the situation.

But don't sell me that they're playing 4d chess, when I know they aren't..

They're stupid assholes who want to hurt people abroad and hurt people at home. There's no great mystery or skill to deciphering it.

There's catching undeserved criticism because a post escapes containment, collapsing context.

Then there's just cynically exploiting social media dynamics and an audience larger than Levar Burton's.

I mean Miller would love a bloody shirt to wave around!

They are so lost to malevolent delusions of grandeur that I think this is not far from what is going on in their power mad fever dreams.

even if it's not planned, I think it's a safe bet that. yes Iran will launch terrorist attacks on infastructure in the US in retaliation and yes Trump will take advantage
