Only have the last month of primaries for this, but centrists are doing far better than they deserve. Melissa Bean is set to shift IL-8 from liberal to moderate and Colin Allred is in a run-off that, if he wins, would have the same result in TX-32. Donna Miller also won IL-2 despite being pro-AIPAC.

I'd agree with you that it isn't politically advantageous in the popular opinion sense, but the funding hauls have been very helpful in getting these candidates tons of ad time to allow them to write whatever narrative about themselves they want.

I'd say it also helps that no one in Dem leadership is willing to speak ill of these candidates or Trump-friendly moderate incumbents, which makes it immeasurably harder for challengers.
