Older couple came in the bar tonight. They had some drinks, had some oysters, decided “what the hell, we’ve never had caviar before,” seemed to have a nice time. As they left, I was folding napkins in our lobby. Wife walked ahead, husband stopped to chat.

First he thanked me for a great experience, said I “must be the owner.” I was like no, I’m the sous chef. He said that the last time they were in the building, they came up to checkout the bar and chatted with me, because I was folding in the lobby then too and that that’s why they came back.

And then he said “and we decided to try the caviar because we just left the hospital, where we found out my wife has terminal cancer.” And then he hugged me and started crying. And I hugged him back and said “I am so glad we could be a moment of respite, and so sorry you are dealing with this.” 💔
