It’s pretty clear that Hage is playing hurt right now Eric. I can’t imagine he’ll be an option for St Louis anytime soon.

Over the next few games I'd like to see Marty rotate bottom six guys in and out and continue that into the playoffs, keeping the team fresh. I don't ever recall that being done. Maybe it would work. One time they didn't have spares during games. Once it was introduced, everybody did it. Evolution.

It’ll be interesting to see what his role is over the weekend. Personally, I think he’s ‘injured’ more than he is hurt. I’ve watched a lot of Michigan this season, and Ive seen him in person, I don’t know if 10 days was enough to recover, or even practice. He looked a shell of himself vs UMD.

I don’t think the decision vs Hage is that complicated. Habs are now top 5-10 teams in the league while still the youngest. The table has flipped. You don’t get to burn a contract year. You want to play, you have to earn it.

There are advantages to burning the first year of a players ELC, not the least of which is they sign their second deal a year sooner, usually for less than they would had they played a third year. Arbitration and offer sheets also come in to play. I think they will burn it if they can.
