I appreciate it more now that it's not the standard.

When everyone was in a chainmail bikini, it wasn't sexy. But when only one gal in ten or so is wearing a chainmail bikini, not only is the chainmail bikini sexy again but somehow the gal in full plate armor is sexier too. Not sure how that works.

I'd say:
You can't just slap it on just anyone, and expect the love to arrive.

We're drawn to a character who makes it work! Chain-kini, plate, it doesn't matter. If the character gives the armor character too, you're drawn more to it.
