can't for the life of me remember where I saw it, but using these AI tools actually hurts productivity significantly because of this. because you have to spend more time fixing their autocomplete outputs than it would to just do it yourself.

these things make people dumber, on purpose I guess.

You're probably remembering that one METR study they did a little while ago. It was a bit limited, with an n=16 or something, and only focusing on specific, task-based coding solutions. But yeah, it showed that the coders were 19% slower at the task than those not using AI.

I remember at work a trainee was asked to make a tempersture log for our fridges. He got AI to do it and spent twenty minutes fixing the dumbass mistakes it made, and it still sucked.

20 minutes to make a shitty table in Word. I could have done better in half the time, and I'm sure he could too.
