Reading past the headline:

"…the underlying AI features are here to stay, though. The Copilot button has been removed from Notepad, but the writing tools replacement still uses AI-powered features and looks like the identical menu of options that existed before"

Yeah, I'm staying on Windows 10.

Windows 11 sucks, don't upgrade if possible.

This thing is frustrating, even as someone who doesn't ask much on an OS and just plays games etc.

:/

My desktop is windows 10 and my laptop is Linux. However, my understanding is since the beginning of the year both SystemD and the Linux kernel have been accepting patches written by Copilot/Claude. So I'll be moving off Linux as soon as I figure out how. I do not expect I'll like NetBSD.

You can use Win11 without AI. But why stay with Windows at all?

I switched to Linux when I got my new laptop several years ago. However the computer I had before that ran Windows, so it's still using Windows. Moreover, I need Windows for my current job, moreover, I have audio production devices which have only Windows drivers, and I can't write Linux drivers yet

In retrospect the final ascendency of the linux desktop finally being brought to fruition by Microsoft shooting itself in the foot seems ... almost inevitable
