Well, the majority of the Popes since Leo XIII were named Pius (Pius IX was the reactionary that put together Vatican I & I think X thru XII were emulating him) and this is the first Leo since then. ALSO when we were in seminary in the 70s Catholic Social Teaching was all the rage.
