One thing that needs to be countered on an evidential basis is the idea that local microgeneration is a good idea. In my view continuing interconnect infrastructure investment with a wide energy mix is greener, more sustainable and secure.

Certainty not. In my view it's to leverage renewables and not create pockets of risk. Fragmenting renewable generation is, imo, makes burning dinosaur bones more likely. Integrating them make it less likely.

The key is 'evidential'. A small number of individual buildings is not likely to make a huge difference either way. Having a policy which allows residential or industrial projects with no requirement to phase link dozens of solar panels/turbines to the grid is an opportunity missed, imo.

Opportunity cost?

It's less that they are an outright bad idea, but the further you are from the equator, the higher the chance that the same money (and maybe subsidy) could have been spent on something even more effective.
