Remember the old 2000s fansub days, when groups would race to get subs out so that they'd be the first and get the most viewers even if it meant tons of preventable errors?

Or how some groups would pick a neglected series/genre, produce a slapdash, low-effort TL, then go "It's better than nothing"?

MTPE (machine translation w/ post-edit) is just another tool of people who think this way. They don't know and have no way of knowing if their TL is accurate. They stubbornly insist generative algorithms produce reliable work that just needs a little spitshine, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Generative algorithms don't understand language. They see text and generate corresponding text based on a dataset we don't know. They have no memory, no grasp of context, no database of names/terms for basic consistency. Their "reasoning" is a black box. You can't understand a black box's choices.

I still think his name should have been Wright. It was an extremely on-the-nose name given the themes of the story. I assume "Light" was also standardized from fan translations.
