Bafflingly there are still people out there in the world who think being passionate about nature is “kind of weird”. or “a niche interest”. These people have it all wrong. Nature isn’t some quirky sideline to the main business. It IS the main business.

The thing with our society now is that if it doesn’t have a monetary value then it is valueless.
Only a couple of years ago the TV and MPs were saying how important our countryside is for mental health. As soon as COVID is done, RIP IT UP, BUILD, BUILD, BUILD!!!!

(Honeybees are the least of our concerns. You might consider switching your focus to native bees, they need your attention far more)

This disconnection with nature is what’s wrong with us humans today. It’s why I believe we won’t survive as a species until we reconnect.

I went from wanting to understand how the earth was made to wanting to figure out how to protect the environment and how we can learn from past ecosystems. It may explain why I want to learn about modern sea turtles and applying that to Cretaceous ones.

The other day I was fishing ladybirds out of the garden waste bin. The postman looked at me quizzically. “Rescuing ladybirds.” “Do they need rescuing?”

Yes, I said (and to myself yes and yes and yes).

I disapprove of people who describe themselves as 'Nature Nerds' for that reason.

being an avid gardener I spend a lot of time with plants, insects and many critters all preferable to humans most of the time.

What they don't get is that we are part of that nature.

This is a 12-year-old tweet. Back then, even in my most pessimistic moments, I'd never have predicted what is happening with Reform right now and what it might spell for the UK's wildlife.
