Slavery was only part of the issue. The main issue was the states right to secede from the Union, for whatever reason. Substitute abortion for slavery and ask yourself if the US military should invade states that allow that.

The states right to secede from the Union for whatever reason is a nice theoretical framing. Fortunately, we have the actual historical fact, written by the Confederates themselves, that the reason they seceded was slavery. Update your info from your 10th grade Southern education.

True, but slave-holding was a major part, as it was in the Constitution of Confederate States (Article I, section IX). The rest of the Contitution closely resembles ours. Maybe we should have let them secede, as most of the southern states are both red states and take more than they give.

Not true. Slavery was the issue. He’s trying to say that them not being allowed to secede is a reason they tried to secede
It’s a bullshit argument.

“Left leaning independent” simping for the Confederacy is a hell of a look.

They just say shit like that so they can start dumbshit arguments like this without being mass-blocked. It’s the new reicht-wing troll strategy.

People don't commit suicide because their "main issue" is they want to make a statement about their right to commit suicide. The idea that states seceded mostly because others argued they couldn't is.. I'm at a loss for words.

Nah, slavery was the main issue, you're not gonna get away with rewriting history here. Secession was attempted because of slavery, it wasn't some side issue.
