Only Republicans call it an Entitlement. SS has never been an Entitlement, it is insurance WE paid for all our working lives.

It was never a tax. It was optional when it was created. It technically can still be opted out of, if I recall correctly. It’s just very difficult to do so. Social security was set up as a way to guarantee income for Americans after their working years, for the many who are not financially savvy.

"Entitlement" comes from the word, Entitled. Somehow, the word has come to hold the opposite of its true meaning in GOP-speak. Entitled means it is not theirs to take! We have to push back on their bastardization of language to win.
