dungeons and dragons rots your brain its rotting the culture. it’s crazy to me how many people are like “harry potter? read another book, loser! mcu? slop! but i consider dungeons and dragons fifth edition synonymous with ttrpgs and i will scream if you suggest i read something else”

I think it's because 5e you don't even have to read, you can just kinda learn the rules via cultural osmosis if you watch enough D&D stuff so like with HP & MCU it's the lowest ticket to entry to something that gestures at something greater and actually indepth w/o being so itself.

btw this is ur most Correct take ever and I have screamed it many a time back on the hellsite. people spend 3 years learning how 5e works and then when someone says "let's play a different game" they mentally go "I am NOT spending another 3 years learning new rules". 5e is a cancer on the hobby.

people talk smack on pbta- and not without reason- but i have run some MotW sessions that knock the socks off anything d&d has to offer

what's your favorite system rn? i have a hard time finding something that balances fiction first gaming with at least a little crunch. powered by the apocalypse and forged in the dark are about as close as i've gotten to that (so far)

i think pathfinder is kind of going away as the default dnd alternative in favor of draw steel lately anyway. the ttrpg metasystem that my heart runs on is forged in the dark, obviously, but draw steel actually rethinks a lot of stuff that people who are precious about dnd would normally not touch

i'm doing my part (by running D&D constantly but using it as a springboard to try and bring people with me to play better RPGs)

The one I most want to try these days is Mythical Bastionland cuz I'm a bit of a sucker for Arthurian legends.

I've been running Lancer over Foundry VTT and I have made some incredible sfx for various weapons, and in introducing an incredible antagonist next session (basically Fem Zechs from Gundam Wing)

d&d 5e isn't a ttrpg. it's a tatterpig.

there's SO MANY OTHER CHOICES! ALMOST ALL OF THEM ARE BETTER!

like whatever you like about D&D, some other system does it better and doesn't have all the shit you hate
