I'm used to food/food deprivation being used as a punishment. I grew up in a household of animal hoarders where I was forced to clean up all the crates from the dogs and cats that my step parents kept. I was denied dinner if I didn't complete my chores by 9:00. They even locked the fridge.

Thank you. They got away with so much. I recently went to look up my childhood address on Google maps and the house was torn down and replaced with a new house. I'm not surprised, given the condition it was in when it got foreclosed on. I'm glad it's gone anyway. So many bad memories there.
