I, too, was really happy to find these yellow magnolias in our neighbourhood in the past few years. There are a lot of white or pink star magnolias and various pink or magenta hues in the larger flowered varieties but yellow ones are few and far between.

There are lots of them here (Portland OR) blooming all over my neighborhood right now. They have a lovely lemony scent.

My Magnolia is not doing well. I was inspired by Steel Magnolias.

I had to look it up, I never knew there were other colors than white. - Magnolias are a diverse genus of flowering trees & shrubs known for their large, fragrant, & showy flowers, which bloom in spring or summer in shades of white, pink, purple, or yellow, often before the leaves emerge.

I have one that looks exactly the same in Aotearoa New Zealand I planted twenty years ago it is a joy! M. soulangeana hybrid ‘Sunbird’. We had a company hybridising magnolias (Duncan and Davies) in the 1980s and 90s who had a solid export business to Britain but may have sold many other places.

In the U.S. they bloom later and are hardier than the southern pink. If you live in the North, it is wise to buy this kind. We had a huge pink one that bloomed every year before a frost. So sad to see the flowers drop to the ground.

Elizabeth just starting to bloom in Baltimore Maryland. Beautiful companion to native redbuds and early dogwoods.

There's one in my vicinity in New Brunswick, Canada.

It's the only magnolia I've seen around here that isn't one of the hardy hybrids, like Leonard Messel. Gonna have to tap my hort-student daughter and see if she can find one for me.

LOL I'd known she was doing a project starting magnolias from seed, because she discovered she's allergic to their seed coats (an allergy that would go undetected in most people, I expect). Turns out that she was working with the yellow "Butterfly" cultivar, and has a tray of seedlings.

So I'll /
