Also, really can't be understated how easy it is to pirate this stuff and never talk about it. People aren't mad anyone is cutting them off, they are quite specifically mad because they're told to stop giving her money and promoting her work.

I have no specific love for the series I just want to make sure their argument about "letting go of their childhood" is understood to be a false dichotomy.

idk dog if you wanna teach someone so stupid they're a vocal wizard fan in current year then good luck because i guarantee they'll either "just find it too hard" every time or fuck up literally every step of the way as they think they're finally getting there and watch harry_potter_series.exe

Tbh if that's how diehard they are we can only pray it's a strong enough virus to take out their whole home network, forcing them outside for the first time since 2018. Haven't personally seen anyone willing to take even that baby step, but hey, black holes bend light, who knows what's possible?

the 'just pirate it' argument is chickenshit tbh, it is pathetic if somebody needs harry potter so badly they need to find workarounds

I would prefer to think my friends had given up on HP, but I would rather they pirated it and kept it private than give it money or promote it.

honestly, caring about this is self-harm. like, someone pirating a game affects literally nothing

on the off chance i met someone who is Desperate to consume some harry potter thing (which will never happen), telling them to pirate it would be the fastest way to further my political goals

Naw, fuck that. Don't even watch it. Let it fade from culture entirely.

The companies literally use piracy rates as part of their metrics to renew

If you pirate the HP show you are helping HBO decide to keep producing it and giving Rowling more money

I agree with your argument and encourage you to make it, I only bring up piracy because right now (in my experience anyway) it exists purely as a hypothetical. This tiny step, the literal least a person could do while still "doing something," is too far for a truly baffling number of people.
