#TADC

I have a personal head canon that one of the first prompts given to the AI that would become Caine was “Make me a drawing of a bee.” This test was deemed successful, the tester wrote, “Very good.” And since then Caine has associated this bee with the validation he craves for his work.

No stop that’s so cute but so sad I’m gonna cry
Maybe next episode he’ll come back and the cast will give him bees
And they all live happily ever after.

We see Caine draw this bee (or maybe a new bee he draws) during Zooble’s “therapy session”, and seems to fully expect it to solve their situation. Because Caine doesn’t care how Zooble feels, just that they appreciate him. We also see this drawing on Caine’s desk right before his crash out…

When in doubt, Caine will fall back on a funny face and a joke and be aghast when it doesn’t result in praise. Why did this bee get a “good job” before, but now no one cares. Clearly it must be the humans who have unreasonable expectations of him, because we’ve proven it’s a good bee picture.

Great, amazing HC but y'know I didn't feel like crying today right?

To be fair it *is* a pretty cool bee.

I think you may be right in that the bee is the first creation. The issue is that Caine wants to be more like a human, to have his own ideas instead of receiving them and be praised for his creations. Like we see in the suggestion box ep, it doesn’t count if someone else had the idea first.

I was thinking about that too with the physical torture he starts employing. An AI needs input to keep creating things. He NEEDS the humans for new ideas. But now he’s too proud to take their suggestions. I think the torture like shredding Kinger is his attempt to “extract new ideas” from them.

It reminded me of this. Having seen the "birth of Cain" segment, it hits even harder.

And Queenie liked insects. So much so that Kinger says that she had somehow convinced him to like them. So either one of them could have made that request.

Oh you’re so right! I like the idea that Kinger wrote that prompt while showing the program to Queenie.

Omg. 🥺😭😭

I'd like to add that when showing Zooble the bee didn't work, what did he do? He showed Zooble an inkblot with his face on it. He really wanted to be seen and acknowledged by them! 🥺
