I think a decent way of getting the point across better is the debate on vaccines.

There is evidence and testing done by the World Health Organization, and it proves vaccines, while there's some risk, (like with driving a car, or just crossing a street) are overall proven to be safe-

Yessss!!! I see your point and agree wholeheartedly. Some unknowingly pass thru and may see things to be questionable.

I always speak up to what I feel to be stigmas that need to be squashed. Mostly about animals of course. And the whole puritan thought *shivers*!!!

However, despite evidence, people will flood the Internet with their own reasons, without proof, that such things slowly kill you.

You argue your case as to why they're wrong and they venture to find like-minded people who will, again, spread misinformation across the Internet, leading to-

Undecided people, people who just haven't thought too hard about certain issues (mainly because they've been unaffected, survivorship bias) and now nobody is sure who to trust anymore.

And because we're in this age of "agree to just disagree" it gives credit to these pseudo conspiracies-
