(It also probably has to do with where he sits, there’s not a lot of room to maneuver in there. But putting the commander’s seat furthest from the hatch is a decision someone made)

(IIRC this caused a whole thing on Apollo 11 because Armstrong‘s seat on the lunar lander was farthest from the door but they wanted the commander to be first on the moon)
