Simple Mindsโ€™ โ€œDonโ€™t You (Forget About Me) turns 41 this weekend. ๐ŸŽ‚

Jim Kerr said, โ€œ.. I added the big โ€˜la, la-la-la-laโ€™ ending because I didnโ€™t have any lyrics. .. I said Iโ€™d write some, but [producer] Keith [Forsey] said: 'Over my dead body. Weโ€™re keeping that.'"

It's a beautiful song. I don't care what year it was produced.

I one read that the band didn't think the song was that good.

I love stories like that, Keith Richards originally played the opening rift for โ€œSatisfactionโ€ as a place-holder for horns, he didn't think what he did was good enough and Andrew Oldham was like no, that's the song's true opening, it stays.

First hit single recorded using a fuzz pedal, I think? Knowing that it was a temp track for horns and you can hear the "honk" tone that it produces

Pop music pap raised above the baseline by that drum beat.

โ€œIt was written by record producer Keith Forsey and guitarist Steve Schiff for the film The Breakfast Club.

Simple Minds initially declined to record it, preferring to record their own material, but accepted after several other acts also declined.โ€

โ€œForsey offered it to Bryan Ferry who declined as he was working on his album. Ferry said: "It was just bad timing. Forsey sent me demo. it sounded like a hit."

Label suggested Corey Hart, who had hit w/ Sunglasses at Night, but Forsey didnt think he was the right singer.

Billy Idol also declined

A great moment in rock indeed Carl. Especially for those of us from the breakfast club generation.

Imo, that song still 'holds up' even 41 years later.

I absolutely love Simple Minds! I used to play them on the radio when I was a DJ at WUWU (an alternative station) in Western New York. Thanks for the memory! But I don't think I've ever seen the video.

They didn't want to do the song at all, the producer basically forced it on them. Turned out to be their biggest hit ever. It is still one of my fav 80s tunes.

Billy Idol was 1st choice but he turned it down. I think he (and his great guitarist Steve Stevens) would have done well with it but SM knocked it out of the park.
