The Air Force labels the launch of certain missiles “Fox 1 Fox 2 Fox 3”. Fox 2 is a heat seeking missile and Fox 3 is a self guided radar missile. Fox 1 is guided by a radar from the aircraft. Fox is short for Foxtrot which is NATO code for fire.
