I'd argue intersections are worse for pedestrians because we aren't in or part of traffic.

I think that's absolutely true at some intersections, especially with poor visibility!

Where I live that's almost all the intersections. Daylighting never increased to compensate for the increased size of vehicles parked near intersections.
