We're watching a bunch of guys convinced that everyone who had their jobs before them were just stupid slowly discovering - without learning a damn thing - that there were in fact very good reasons why no one did the 'obvious' thing before them.

This is why.

Though the real people that need to learn the lesson really are the median voters: THIS is why you do not put unserious fools in charge of the government.

THIS is why 'he talks like me' (= he tells it 'like it is') is not a good qualification for president.

I hate being hostage to half a nation of three-year-olds with voting rights. And I'm barely even affected compared to people in multiple other countries.

I wonder if this situation will continue long enough for the incompetence on display at the strategic level to start filtering down to the operational or tactical level.

I guess Trump's various orders to relax ROEs are a step in that direction but it can get so much worse.

I would call it learning by touching the stove, but unfortunately it's more like helplessly watching as someone grabs your hand and forces you to touch the stove and also I'm skeptical they're learning.

Earlier today, I saw some excerpts from an Israeli pro-war podcast from a few weeks ago where the very earnest podcasters talked very earnestly about how Israelis have to live with consequences of all this, but Americans don't.

Glad I have enough level-headedness that my computer is still fine.

Sounds like Israelis never got above the Yonatan Netanyahu view of the USA. Never got the idea that that view might have been based on a limited perspective.
