Tell the American people that opening Hormuz is required for gas prices to come down in the long term and to make that happen we need to put pressure on Iran, then declare a blockade, with a promise to remove it if Iran allows free and unrestricted transit of the strait.

So... The argument is we need to fuck up the world economy so the Iranians will stop fucking up the world economy after we fucked with the Iranians.....

And the Iranians will accept this because we fucked with them during negotiations twice now and unilaterally pulled out of a deal before.

A reminder that Iran oil was already being snuggled out as oil from Yemen before this, so any "blockade" of Iran essentially also means stopping oil from smuggler friendly assets ...

Then trade away sanctions for free passage of the Hormuz at the peace table.

It's still losing, but not losing as badly.

I think in a huge number of ways it would be better for the US to just pay direct reparations to Iran -- "we realize we screwed up under international law, take this payment and sanction relief as a consolation and let everything go back to status quo"

Makes sense, basically show that you are also willing to endure pain for a longer term, but also dangle the carrot.

The winning offer for the US would be to offer a complete Israeli pull out from the Occupied territories (Gz, WB & Lebanon) in exchange for the reopening of Hormuz & a ceasefire. That would be a win for Iran, a win for the US and a necessary lesson to the Israelis not to keep electing fascists.

Israel has nuclear weapons and would not agree to that deal is the problem.
