Meanwhile, in gaming: I realize making fun of Starfield is, at this point, beating a very dead horse, but the fact that having mods or creations enabled disables achievements is peak "what were you thinking?" design.

*Everyone* plays Bethesda games with mods, you nuts.

They do this every time, and all it does is inconvenience console users and give them a worse experience.

Though I do wonder if there is some sort of achievement protection rule the console makers implement that Bethesda is just too lazy to remove on PC.

A legacy from when achievements actually meant you had achieved something in a game.

Doubly for Starfield as they integrated paid DLC into their mod system from day 1.

I played Fallout 4 without mods to get some achievements. I lost my save file since I didn't have the mod that prevents the game from automatically deleting your save file when it crashes in the wrong way

Same thing with all Paradox games, which pretty much thrive because of mods (which Paradox counts on).

Oddly not Vic3 or CK3, but back to it with EU5.

New update is good though. It doesn't fix the core loop or the writing but at least it's fun to do space things.

Yeah, I am getting ready to try out the new update. I enjoyed Starfield OK and dumb, repetitive fun would be nice right about now.

Naturally, there are mods on Nexus that fix this.

Which is equally hilarious.

Are there mods that do the same for Skyrim and Fallout 4?

Through Mod(s), all things are possible

I would really wish we could discuss how Starfield sucks, until the end of time. I don't want to do anything else, ever.

I'm sure someone internal thought "but mods can allow players to cheat!", clearly a big concern in a single player offline game with a bunch of difficulty sliders that allow you to make everything trivial. It's especially dumb when they have officially blessed in-game mods that disable achievements!

Going to note that the reality is scummier than that.

Free creations will typically disable achievements, but paid creations won't. They do this to incentivize the purchase of creations. This system has been back ported into both Skyrim & Fallout 4.

They know what they're doing.

This, but for every single player game honestly. Paradox, I'm looking at you.
