This video is over 7 hours long and I've watched it in its entirety TWICE. One of the funniest things I've ever seen they completely lose their minds by the end youtu.be/Z5sYWs9OtHs
I’ve watched most Todd in the Shadows videos at least 10-15 times
Either look up his video on a particular one-hit wonder you’re really interested in (he’s probably made a video on it), or just start with this series here and work your way to the present
Some people just need something to jiggle keys at the annoying distracted part of their brain so the rest can be used to get work done. (It's me. I'm some people.)
When I worked for Rockstar Support, after they finally canceled incoming calls due to too many calls that were 1. pranks, or 2. issues not resolvable by Support (like bannings), I would sit there and do emails every day with the "Battletoads Race" playlist in my ear. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL201F1C36731623D0
If you like Eyepatch Wolf I very much recommend his book “The Bizarre World of Fake Video Games” if you haven’t read it yet. I will say nothing else about it.
It's music for me. Sometimes a song I LOVE 20 times on a loop until I burn it so hard it's almost like noise and it doesn't hit as hard now. Essays distract me too much
I don't understand how you will all be able to draw with a 17-hour long video about Adobe, but bless you and your efforts and may hbomberguy finish up soon.
Adding to the pile! Any video by Noah Gervais, like the franchise roundups for Resident Evil and Fallout, but especially the Lincoln Highway travelogue which stays permanently downloaded on my phone for long flights. Recently Majuular's excellent Ultima retrospectives are my comfort watches.
I can comfirm that yes they are. I think I've listened through most of the video essays from both Folding Ideas and Hbomberguy by now. Not to mention quite a few others, and audio books.
I was leaving. I was done with OPs post. But some twisted part of my brain saw those four letters under this topic and needed to turn around and find out why they were there.
I regret this. I regret knowing this exists. I'll watch the video later.
hi i tend to browse/lurk replies of some posts here and there (like this one!) and i feel like I hit the jackpot for video essays to draw to just by this one's title alone
I blame these videos (and others) for my fucked attention span. I crave long-form media while the whole time, I cannot resist the urge, the inkling, that I Have to pick up a pen and do something else or my viewing experience becomes lesser
Some of my other "why yes Youtube I will watch that 30-to-300 minute long video yet again"s are Shaun, Defunctland/DefuncTV, Jenny Nicholson, Lindsay Ellis, Todd in the Shadows, Kyle Kallgren, Veritasium, Super Eyepatch Wolf, Rhystic Studies, JoCat, JelloApocalypse, and Barry's "Good Enough Summary"
At this point I have probably watched those two videos for over a hundred hours... If you count the other videos by them, it has to be well over a thousand by now...
Every video essay is called "The Pull: How A Simple Change In Cheese Vendors Doomed Cici's Pizza" or "Expedition Thirty-Knee: Why the Year's Best JRPG Was the Perfect Game for My ACL Tear Recovery Process"
I feel like this makes me a real (baby) artist even if I don't post anything, thanks for the validation 🥹 I usually put videos by Princess Weekes or Alexander Avila, though the plagiarism essay is the one I keep going back to when in doubt
Lyrics: For online content creators, the unavoidable subject of 2021 has been NFTs, from incredibly cringe-worthy ape profile pics, to incomprehensibly tasteless tributes to deceased celebrities, to six-figure sales of the "original copy" of a meme, it is the thing that is currently dominating the c
I nominate the plagiarism and YouTube video, Shaun’s Bell Curve video, as well as Quinton’s videos on iCarly and Victorious. Been watching some of Mullet man comics stuff recently. The red hood one is great.
What works for me is podcasts. Will of the Counsel is really great for that, 3 guys who take "Am I The Asshole" posts from Reddit and give their take on it
It sounds really bad said like that but I promise you it's incredible
Oh! A few channels I like to add to this list (though they can kinda get like political or a bit heavy).
@fdsignifier.bsky.social has great videos diving into not just rap culture but black media and the impact that can have with the wider world and it's historically impact as well
@lola.nebula.tv just released a great video on the Chip chilla cartoon which divies into the show and how it not only is terrible but gives a very misogynistic view for little girls to look up to. There's a part two coming out soon I believe.
