So explain to me how making Australia pay a tariff is going to help me? My meds going up 100% is not helpful and probably a death sentence.

Australia doesn't pay the tariff. It's importers in the US that pay the tariff.
The impact it has on Australia is that demand for meds from Aus companies reduces due to the price in the US. Which can impact their profits. So the price of meds in AUS does not change unless we apply counter tarrifs
