Interesting backstory: my Mom is Merry White, whose career has spanned "caterer/cookbook author/anthropologist of Japan/food anthropologist" and my co-author for the book Ways of Eating; Curio Spice Co. is a great spice shop in North Cambridge, MA close to where I grew up. Try their blends!

Cookbooks should be $5 or $10, and my Mom's gotten a lot of help from the creator and owner of the fabled Joie de Vivre, the boutique gift shop that graced Mass Ave for decades.
