This is a whole mood.

It’s a particularly hard business model for artists in particular, whose income can wildly fluctuate.

It’s so much more advantageous to buy once, & HAVE IT, then decide IF you want to buy an upgrade that includes new things, based upon whether YOU think YOU need them, or not.

Like, I HATE the AI tools. I do not want them.

But if you shove them down our throats, and give us no real mechanism to tell you whether you’re even developing something customers WANT, how can you determine if you’re just wasting dev time or not?

This parody ad hangs in the breakroom of the design firm I work for. Y'all hit the nail on the head with all of them. Keep up the great work.

This is how you ensure even the gullible opt out of AI.

Big Tech/AI Bros are covered in flop sweat as it dawns on them that the sheep aren't buying their AI shit.

Now corporations are radically over-extended from betting on this reckless gamble.

And so many have seen fit to burn the bridge back.

Just unsubscribe and use something like Krita, or another program by a company that doesn't have AI bundled in with their program at that point. It's really not a hard adjustment.

handwriting was on the wall when they went to cloud based subscription only.... honestly you'll pull my hard copy, bought and purchased software out of my cold dead hands.

I still use CS6 for that reason, there are no new features since that time that I would ever use, imagine how much money I would've paid over all that time!!

I really think an underappreciated aspect of the way out of our current poly crisis is a mass movement to open source software and platforms.

And also... hastening the collapse of the AI bubble so that several tech empires collapse.

Evernote has just done the same. Hi, here is some AI bollocks you don't want and cannot opt out of and the monthly price has doubled.

Adobe ...nobody knows what it actually does. i thought it was just a vehicle for endless updates. Like some kind of software perpetual motion machine... You get it and then you just never have an up to date version ... you're just locked into never ending updates at that point...

I love the testimonials of their generative AI.

Paramount+ in particular.🙄

Here pay handsomely for our apps so designers can be replaced.

Meanwhile, I'm still using my Adobe CS5.5 student edition I got well over a decade ago.

Tim Apple has done this to a certain extent with the Apple Work apps and a definite extent with Final Cut.

Very not happy with this.

If they really wanted to make some money, they'd force users to upgrade to a higher tiered plan to get the apps without all the AI crap no one actually wants.

This one takes a bit of a wind-up so bear with me: MIT's housing buildings each negotiate food service with the college separately. One year, an enterprising building board, in keeping with MIT's nerdy pedigree, put the entire script of Jurassic Park in their proposed contract. Without reading it

the college accepted. Unbeknownst to the college, however, buried halfway through the script was a completely free buffet for the entire year, which the college was now on the hook for. This became known as The Jurassic Clause. Software companies are now service companies to Jurassic Clause you.

I have hated Adobe since they first came out... constant, sometimes multiple times a day, they would push upgrades. For me, since I was in IT Dev & Implementation, that many frequent updates means shitty code & mismanaged dev cycles. These subscription games get a "go fuck yourself" response from me

When forced to use it, I pirated it. And I still wouldn't use it by choice. Even for a million dollars I wouldn't use it for life. The GUI is rarely responsive in any of their apps and it's a clusterfuck of algorithms that are open source. I'd rather pay for what I use, not for what uses us.

Photoshop was the most pirated software on Earth for over a decade. If you want to blame someone for Adobe going nuclear, blame ourselves.

The company that hates its consumers.

I used the Elements versions of Photoshop/Premiere. You can still buy it, but it expires in 3 years, and you can't use it after that. It stops working. I'd probably upgrade within those 3 years, but I don't want to be FORCED to.

Right. They are FORCING AI down our throats, charging us for it, and building data centers we don't want that will destroy the environment. And no one is stopping them. AI operates like a virus. You can downgrade to standard but it will come back.

I keep the Photography plan for $10 just because photoshop is a crutch for me. Otherwise I’ve moved onto Affinity, which has been pretty decent for a one time purchase.

Yeah, hopped off that roundabout. unfortunately photoshop, Indesign & lightroom & possibly others, are best in class, but I have time to explore alternatives properly

Many years ago, some people discovered that you can get a legitimate copy of Creative Suite 2 because Adobe was shutting down the activation server and they weren't checking who had legit keys or not before making the offer. I still use it, but I'm also not a pro in the industry.
