Yes. Every past administration has used detente and diplomacy when dealing with Iran because they knew it was a bad idea. But the corrupt orange narcissist and his frat boy cabinet thought it was going to be easy like Venezuela. Arrogance and hubris mixed with stupidity.

And Venezuela was likely so easy because there was some sort of a deal with Maduro.

I don't buy it for a second that Maduro didn't see it coming and/or that he had escape routes for most emergencies.
