We have never seen America with media and political classes captured by the left. Our media (and pols) are owned by corporations, and corporations are inherently anti-left. The Democrats and Obama are only "left" relative to Republicans.

Also we can draw a direct line from the Tea Party to this.

Interesting, I've always observed the media and political class leaning left to some degree. But I am in the NE.

"Left" means anti-capitalist, among other things, but that's the main one. The word you're looking for is "liberal." Liberals like Obama think they can reform the existing capitalist system, but they want capitalism and all the financial incentives to remain intact.
