the political and media classes are from essentially a different country. they even have their own schools. as for ordinary british people, I can say as someone who transitioned 25 years ago and never left this public toilet of a country that, yeah, they’re mostly either chill or they don’t care.

I’ve had some terrible experiences with really awful people, but the vast, vast majority of working- and even middle-class people I meet are pretty normal to me.
