Id love to get rid of the gifting aspect of xmas. See the lights and decorations, spend time with the people you care about, but please dont max out credit cards or get into financial hardship for a holiday.

Indeed. If you can give anything, give your time or donate to an appeal close to your heart, providing if you are absolutely able to. 🐨

This is why I have been giving homemade cookies or jams as gifts the last 5+ years.

The people I give to don't need more stuff, and for me time is much more valuable than money. That makes my gifts much more valuable than what they cost to make.

Giving gifts isn't supposed to be about greed and consumerism.

Something with no money behind it but heartfelt would just make me happy cry. ;;w;;

I'd say that giving gifts is just part of how you can express your love for your family and friends. Just treat it as one of the ways you can share joy with them during the holidays.

But whether a person get gifts or not, it should not change how much you love those around you.

im allways more for the cheap practical gifts rather than the splurging on the expensive stuff. even if it just was some homemade food. it was the thought that counted

Habe you considered celebrating Yule instead of Christmas? It's basically exactly what you described.
