Pittsburgh Landing, some 23,000. Yes, considering some 650,000+ died or were as wounded during the war, and they prosecuted the war to a successful conclusion.

Yup.

Something like 75% of Union veterans who witnessed both the horrors of the war and the horrors of southern slavery chose to vote for the guy that wanted to continue the former to abolish the latter in 1864.
