"Reform UK is so desperate to field candidates for the local elections that it has resorted to cold calling complete strangers, including a Guardian journalist, and asking if they would like to put their name on the ballot paper"

Have they put ‘paper’ in single quotes because it’s a euphemism for ‘money’?

Well, "cash prizes" have been offered for those canvassing in Wales.

They knocked my door a few weeks ago asked who I was voting for, I said to them not you for a start. They must have been blind. The colour is ——

He’s spending his dodgy money to create the impression Farage Ltd is a proper party despite the lack of extended participation or due diligence. We’ll have more surprise Reform wins, then more incompetent decisions & resignations - he’s using local government like social media marketing.

Reform is built and powered by the most egregious gaming of the availability heuristic I’ve ever seen.

People might be fooled enough to vote for them, but few are foolish enough to stand.

This is about the % vote they can reach nationally to sustain their polling share bubble, now gently deflating

If they don't put up candidates everywhere Labour, Tories, Greens, PC & SNP do, their overall share in May will be way below the 30% polls show, causing that balloon to sag faster

It's largely because we've not had elections Reform is polling so high - in a similar fashion to LibDems (a much more respectable choice I hasten to add) their support will wane in parts of the country they are no-hopers - their popularity rests on the use of national polls & disregard of geography

Somehow, I don't think they'll be calling on me - though most of the other parties have!

Labels and insults won't hide the truth anymore. People are waking up to the failed promises and twisted narratives of the establishment. You can call us names all you like, but it won’t stop a movement fueled by reality. The silent majority isn't listening to your lies.#ReformUK

A movement bankrolled by an expat tech crypto bro, you mean. I like my employment rights; my professional body, the GTCS; and the tax system in Scotland… so there’s no need to name call when there are actual reasons not to vote Reform.

Not so sure this is true as I suspect you would still have to pay your £400 application fee , none refundable , to be a candidate . In other words its a con .

I'm concerned over voting intentions....some will vote #Reform just for a change & not make a Farage connection. But the rest will be cultists voting for their own impoverishment.

Careful who you vote for

Your Reform candidate may be nothing more than a person who was a bit bored, and has no morals, so said “why not?” when they called.

What surprises me is that given the surge of membership that they have to look outside the membership.

It may be that just like in other parties, many members do not wish to be elected and do not envisage not winning or do not undersfand the concept of a paper candidate.

All parties use paper candidates. They use enthusiastic supporters willing to stand in seats they don’t expect to win.
But picking at random people with no understanding of, or desire to be a hard working councillor resulted in so many incompetent and disgraced Reform councillors last time round.

This is why so many Reform councillors resigned within days or weeks of being elected. They didn't really sign up for the job, and most didn't realise what a hard thankless unpaid job being a councillor is.

Vetting still isn't a priority for Reform UK. What could possibly go wrong... again.

Only real hard-line nutters would put themselves forward to represent a party led by bigots and grifters.

That’s why so many of their people turn out to be the scum of the earth.

I wonder if I should apply? I'm a British Citizen but live 5,000 miles away in the South Atlantic, so the chance of me actually functioning as a councillor are almost as low as those of Nigel Farage doing something for his constituents, but I wouldn't turn down any money that might be going.

I get the impression that Refuk supporters want to sit in front on the tv and whinge. They don’t want to stuff envelopes, deliver leaflets, have doorstep conversations, put up placards let alone actively participate in local government.

Or change party immediately afterwards.

It would also reinforce how stupid the ability to "cross the floor" without forcing another election it is.

bsky.app/profile/phillilla.bsky.social/post/3mihfowntqs23 -seemingly quantity and quality are now both an issue- oh dear... If Farage gets too bored by official parliamentary procedures for doing business then I can't imagine he's going to find 1000s of 'activists' ready to do that at a local level...

Was there not a story yesterday that some of their named candidates for the General Election were exactly that - made up names?
