However I would like to see the policy changed thus:

I believe that the UK needs to keep its permanent seat on the UN security council in order to have influence over important decisions but to do so, we need to be a nation with nuclear weapons. 2/3

So I propose we keep our nuclear deterrent but on a hugely reduced bases. Keep say two nuclear weapons, made by the UK entirely independently of the US but in consultation with France who already have their own truly independent nuclear deterrent. What do you say @zackpolanski.bsky.social? 3/3

I'm torn on this. But yes, if we ARE going to have it, the current system is useless relying both on the USA and on stealth now rendered impossible by underwater drone tech and static undersea detectors at choke points.

But as I say, I'm torn. I don't think I've quite given up on unilateralism.
