The way the Electoral College is structured, a voter in Wyoming has 3.5x as much say in the election of a President as a voter in California. What good is our vote, indeed?

These only impact a handful of offices that are elected by district. Offices like senate, governor, president, etc. are statewide and not subject to gerrymandering.

In an ideal democracy it's one person one vote and no representative nonsense. Our system is a representative democracy but that depends on having honest reps and at this point it should be obvious we don't.

That's why you count total votes and have districts just for statistical purposes.

You're forgetting that Baker v. Carr will be overturned shortly, so it will become 4 red, 1 blue. Who cares about 1 man, 1 vote.

The other advantage of gerrymandering is less obvious but still real: the other party is guaranteed safe seats.

Well, you CAN defeat gerrymandering: If enough people get angry about the cheaters and stop voting for them, even severe gerrymandering will fail.

Fun fact: democrats tried to make this illegal nationwide as part of the For the People Act (which, among other reforms, would have also ended citizens united). Unfortunately, voters didn’t give them sufficient seats to overcome gop obstruction and then voters decided to hand control to republicans.

In Texas, in the last presidential election, 56% voted for Trump and 42.5% for Harris.

Here in Australia we got rid of gerrymandered by establishing an independent agency to shape electoral boundaries based purely on population size - not voting intention. It also runs all our elections, local state and federal.
