If you're not quite clear on what gerrymandering is, this graphic explains it really well.

Don’t forget, statewide races such as those for governor or senators are NOT gerrymandered. This is not an excuse to not vote.

And here’s what it looks like in real life, where urban area votes are diluted with suburb votes.

Happy that my country uses Mixed-member proportional representation. Good luck trying to gerrymander that.

It’s time for the blue states to whip out the gerrymandering. Not tit for tat, Texas gets 5, blue states get 50.

Canadian here.....

If the politicians can rearrange a map in order to get the results They want, what good is your vote?? How can they possibly lose??

That's the plan, they've been chipping away at democracy for decades and this open rigging of the districts is the final straw.

The way the Electoral College is structured, a voter in Wyoming has 3.5x as much say in the election of a President as a voter in California. What good is our vote, indeed?

These only impact a handful of offices that are elected by district. Offices like senate, governor, president, etc. are statewide and not subject to gerrymandering.

Could you add a graph that ends up with 3 blue, 2 red?

That'd be gerrymandering

In an ideal democracy it's one person one vote and no representative nonsense. Our system is a representative democracy but that depends on having honest reps and at this point it should be obvious we don't.

That's why you count total votes and have districts just for statistical purposes.

You're forgetting that Baker v. Carr will be overturned shortly, so it will become 4 red, 1 blue. Who cares about 1 man, 1 vote.

It should be illegal. But cheating and manipulation seems to be the only way assholes win

The other advantage of gerrymandering is less obvious but still real: the other party is guaranteed safe seats.

We got to this place through the complicity of both the Republicans and the Democrats.

We need an independent electoral commission, to be free of this corruption.

Here in Michigan, we passed a ballot prop to setup an independent commission to draw the districts.

They passed a similar ballot prop in Utah and the state legislature responded with "nah we're not gonna do that"

Well, you CAN defeat gerrymandering: If enough people get angry about the cheaters and stop voting for them, even severe gerrymandering will fail.

Support the Fair Representation Act to end gerrymandering— multi-member districts, ranked-choice voting: fairvote.org/our-reforms/fair-representation-act/

I’m so glad we made it illegal in Michigan.

Fun fact: democrats tried to make this illegal nationwide as part of the For the People Act (which, among other reforms, would have also ended citizens united). Unfortunately, voters didn’t give them sufficient seats to overcome gop obstruction and then voters decided to hand control to republicans.

I say voting district lines should be drawn by a randomly chosen 3rd grade class.

Texas is heavily gerrymandered but that doesn’t explain why they elected and keep electing the 3 stooges- Ted Cruz, Ken Paxton, and Greg Abbott-

In Texas, in the last presidential election, 56% voted for Trump and 42.5% for Harris.

Here in Australia we got rid of gerrymandered by establishing an independent agency to shape electoral boundaries based purely on population size - not voting intention. It also runs all our elections, local state and federal.
